Running for a fifth year, XL Catlin Arctic Live has established itself as the most northerly live education event, connecting thousands globally with the latest science from the UK Arctic Research Station on Svalbard.
Between 1 and 10 May 2018, Encounter Edu set up a field-based classroom running three different sessions to inspire and inform students about the polar region and latest field marine research on microplastics and ocean acidification in the Arctic Ocean.
Over five days, the Encounter Edu team ran 30 YouTube live broadcasts including 10 live investigations, 10 interviews with members of the expedition team and 10 ‘Ask-Me-Anything’ sessions with polar educator Jamie Buchanan-Dunlop. Combined, 20 one-to-one video encounters and 30 live broadcast lessons directly engaged over 21,000 students across 200 schools in 30 countries.
