Submarine Live 2019 Yellow Sub Thumb

25 Mar 2019 - 29 Mar 2019

AXA Submarine Live 2019

Submarine Live 2019 was part of AXA XL Oceans Education live series. This education initiative combines teaching resources with live broadcasting link to current ocean research expeditions to schools around the world. We connected thousands of students across the globe to the Nekton First Descent team, as they investigated the uncharted depths of the Indian Ocean around the Seychelles archipelago.

With still 95% of the ocean unexplored, students of all ages had a chance to explore the deep ocean from their classroom, to engage with scientists and submersible pilots working on the exploration and to develop their critical thinking and working scientifically skills.

Running over five days, we ran 10 live broadcasts across two different formats repeated twice a day. The expert interviews or Ask-Me-Anything sessions allowed for a discussion with members of the Nekton mission and other scientists from the Seychelles joining the expedition. The live investigations introduced submarines and submersibles physics and engineering. Linked resources were provided to aid preparation and reflection, enabling deeper learning. These included Submarine STEM lesson plans, multimedia resources, 360VR tools, and background subject knowledge.
