Coral adventure
We welcome younger children to our first Coral Live lesson for EYFS. The live lesson is a perfect introduction to the coral reef. The host for the lesson is Jamie who has visited the reefs of the Caribbean many times. Jamie will introduce some of the skills and equipment needed to explore underwater, before taking students on a coral adventure.

If you have never joined a live lesson before, see the guidance hub, where you will find technical and educational support.
This lesson is based around exploring the coral reef near the CARMABI research station. If you would like to introduce students to some of the animals, shapes and patterns found on a coral reef, you can use the two galleries listed in the supporting resources before the live lesson.
Questions generated by your class can be submitted via the Encounter Live tab in your Encounter Edu profile.
Session outline
1. Introduction (5 mins)
Jamie will open the live lesson with a welcome and introduction to Coral Live and the CARMABI research station, as well as giving shout outs to students and schools.
2. Dive signs dance (5 mins)
Before going on their coral adventure, students will learn how to communicate underwater. Get up and dance with these dive signs!
3. Scuba gear (5 mins)
Exploring for long periods underwater requires not just a knowledge of dive signs, but also scuba gear. Jamie will guide students through the different bits of kit needed for their coral adventure.
4. Exploring the reef (10 mins)
Let’s explore underwater and see what creatures we can spot. Students can use their Coral adventure tick sheet to see if they can spot some of the most common animals on the reef.
5. Q&A (5 mins)
During this live lesson, we will be using presubmitted and live chat questions to guide the conversation, and we will use this time at the end to cover any questions that we haven’t managed to get to.
