Protecting the big blue
The Blue Marine Foundation team will take classes on a journey to discover the importance of the ocean and how it can be protected. The lesson will examine how protecting the ocean is different to protecting habitats on land and look at how marine protected areas can conserve our ocean with a focus on Blue Marine Foundation’s work in Jersey.
Preparation
If you have never joined a live lesson before, visit the support centre, where you can find a range of technical and educational information.
Questions generated by your class can be submitted in advance via the Encounter Live tab in your profile.
Lesson steps
1. Introduction (5 minutes)
We welcome classes and introduce World Ocean Day Live and the #ourblue theme with a brief outline of the content of the session explaining how viewers can interact with the team.
2. Protecting the big blue (20 minutes)
The Blue Marine Foundation will deliver a presentation describing the importance of the ocean and how it can be protected. The presentation will also cover how protecting the ocean is different to protecting habitats on land. It will end by examining how marine protected areas can conserve our ocean with a focus on Blue Marine Foundation’s work in Jersey.
3. Q&A (10 minutes)
This is a chance for children to ask any questions about protecting our blue spaces and how this can be done on different scales, whether it is large areas of the ocean, or a local river or pond.
4. Summary (5 minutes)
The Blue Marine Foundation will finish the live lesson by re-emphasising our ocean connection and will also mention some of the other sessions available on World Ocean Day for Schools.
