Climate tipping points interactive

Earth is a huge connected system. In some places, a small rise in temperature can trigger big changes that may be impossible to reverse. These are called "tipping points."

The map shows 16 tipping points in different parts of Earth - from ice sheets to rainforests. Each is colour-coded to show how much warming might trigger them. Some could happen at lower temperatures (like coral reefs at 1.5°C of warming), while others need much more warming (like changes to Antarctica at 7.5°C).

Once a tipping point is reached, it can start a chain reaction of changes that affect both the local area and the whole planet.
