The divers on the XL Catlin Seaview Survey need about 24kg (53lb) of equipment to work underwater. This rises to about 40kg (88lb) for the deep reef team, who need to wear an extra air tank for the greater depths. Peter Dalton, the Shallow Reef Survey’s field technical officer will take you through everything. Make notes on why divers need the following items of equipment: wetsuit, mask, air tank, dive computer, BCD (buoyancy control device), harness, regulators, cutters, fins and a torch.
