Self-driving cars, also known as driverless cars or autonomous cars, are able to sense where they are, determine what's around them, and decide what to do next - kind of like humans. The driverless car 'brain' is a system of computers, which computer scientists and computer engineers have programmed with various algorithms, or instructions and rules. Over time, self-driving cars are able to gather data and learn. So while riding in the back seat of a driverless car may not feel very different from riding in a regular car, there's a lot going on in the computers in order to get you to your destination and keep everyone inside and outside of the car safe.
