Coral Live 2018 field update: Highs and lows

Day 1: The day started for us at 4.30am with breakfast and coffee in the dark warmth of a Caribbean pre-dawn, even the birds weren't up. We set up all the cabling and connections ready for the first live broadcast by torchlight. Then bananas and sweets at the ready we launched into the Incredible edible polyp live investigation. Seeing photos of students participating half way across the world makes all the effort worth it.

A big thank you to Mr Naismith for posting these.

We then had an amazing interview with Dr Kristen Marhaver, a powerful advocate for the coral polyp. We loved hearing how corals basically split themselves into two and then twofold again, ending up with 1,000 of polyps, "Imagine having to live with thousands of yous for hundreds of years, and stuck in the same place."

You can watch the interview below...

Then the tech situation sadly took a turn for the worse...

So tomorrow...

Wish us luck!
