Silver Award winner of the Geographical Association Publishers


GA 2016 AWARD HEADER

The annual GA Awards ceremony recognises the achievements of individuals, schools and publishers during the previous year. The 2016 GA Awards were presented at the GA Annual Conference in Manchester. During its annual ceremony, the Geographical Association has given the Publishers’ Silver Award to Digital Explorer for resources’ impact, quality, usability and originality and for making “a significant contribution to geographical education and professional development”.

In its feature on the 2016 awards part of the GA Magazine issue no.33, the GA further writes, "The flagship ‘Live Expedition’ series allows students to connect live to research teams so that they can learn directly from experts in the field. The judges felt that this is a high-quality and contemporary resource that is suitable for both primary and secondary teachers. The lesson plans in particular are detailed, well-differentiated and fully resourced and can be adopted as they are or easily adapted to engage a range of students."

It cites that the Digital Explorer website can be used as part of a geography unit on extreme environments – expeditions are to places such as the Arctic, Antarctica and Great Barrier Reef– the resource booklets also have the potential to be used as part of a cross-curricular project - "Overall, an engaging and well-presented resource that treats geography as a science and tackles some truly challenging and global issues."
