How to: Use Zoom

Zoom is a free video conferencing software. We host our webinars on this platform as it provides good visual and auditory quality, is rich in functions and is simple to use.

You can be part of a zoom webinar on a desktop or laptop with an internet connection. Although having a working webcam is not essential it can add to student's experience.

How to use Zoom?

Booking webinars is a two part process. Select the webinar you would like to join and press ‘Book now’ toggle. This confirms attendance, allowing us to give your class a shout out and a way for you to pre-submit questions. On the same webinar booking page, follow the Zoom link to register for the webinar. Once you are redirected to the Zoom website, you will need to register by providing your full name and email address.

Soon after, you will receive a confirmation email with a webinar link and a password. When it is time for your webinar return to the confirmation email, follow the webinar link, and once you have entered the password you are ready to join in the discussion.

What if I can’t watch live?

If you and your class are unable to connect with the webinar live, you can still have an interaction with an expert. All webinars are recorded and can be accessed later. By booking and pre-submitting questions, your class will receive a shout out and have their questions answered. After the webinar has happened, you will receive an email with a link to the video. This allows you to view the webinar with your class at a suitable time.

What are the extra features?

Zoom allows students to meet experts from far and wide. Zoom also has several features which improve engagement and interaction such as a live Q&A chat. During the webinar the host or expert may ask you and your class questions. Using these features, you can respond and generate real and meaningful dialogue.

How to manage privacy and security?

Many students and teachers enjoy having their web cam on so students can see themselves on the screen – even if just for a short time. However, please be aware that the webinars are recorded. If you have concerns regarding privacy you can nominate one or several students to represent your class and get parental consent using the media release form by clicking the 'download update' toggle at the top of the page.
