Deep reef survey

During the XL Catlin Seaview Survey, a deep reef team explored the deeper reef down to 125 metres. Divers could lead the research at depths down to 40 metres, but below this ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) were used. The research topics included investigating how corals survived in such low light conditions and whether deep corals could help to repopulate the shallow reef if this was damaged or bleached.
