How do wind turbines generate electricity?

In the UK, the largest renewable source is wind. The interactive diagram above takes you though the steps that enable us to extract electricity from little more than movement in the air.

These giant turbines emit no carbon dioxide, create clean energy from renewable wind, and provide a significant amount of energy for homes and businesses.

Some people don't like wind turbines because they view them as ugly - a blot on the natural landscape, or they think that they make too much noise. What do you think?
