Paul Ramsden, the Ice Base Manager, gives a cartoon introduction to the science behind the 2010 expedition. Do note that the ocean is not actually 'acidic', but is in the process of acidifying. In 2010 the Arctic Ocean had a pH of about 8.1. The level however can vary from season to season.
